Concentration 5 and 6

<---- 5th concentration piece

<-----6th concentration piece

My idea is pretty much the same from the first to this sixth work. I'm still focusing on vulnerability and I'm also continuing using the hiding of faces as a way to connect the pieces. However, in edition to the hiding of faces, I'm also going to use the color black as a way to connect the images. By black, I don't just mean the darkness. It just so happens that these two images are dark. I'm going to use black clothing, atmosphere, makeup, etc. to more clearly connect my concentration images.

Here are some of my re-edited concentration pieces....

^^^ This first image shows how I'm going to connect my works. Before the bathing suit was white and black striped with some red, I edited it so It's all black.

Concentration 3 and 4

This is my 3rd concentration piece about vulnerability. This is about guilt and how when people feel guilty, they often feel more vulnerable. I think the idea is more deep than the first two pieces and it might take a little more thought to understand what specific vulnerability is in this image. This image was planned out from the beginning I knew I wanted this a part of my concentration. The next piece was more of an experiment gone right?
I was trying to see if I could represent how telling people secrets makes you more vulnerable, then i snapped a picture with Mrs. Holliday accidentally in the background. I thought it seemed like two girls spreading rumors about the girl in the back or maybe revealing one of her secrets. Since a theme in my concentration is going to be some how covering or not showing the face, I think both of these pieces connect well. Both use blur and a hand/hand print to cover up the faces.

I was researching artists about a week ago and I stumbled upon Luc De Leeuw's flickr account. He has very intriguing pictures, some of them connected to a theme of vulnerability while also connecting to my theme of a covered face.

are two pictures I especially found compelling. I really want to do an image like the second one because it's very simple, but has a strong impact. I will change it some like probably the use of light or the angle.
That image will most likely be my 5th concentration and my 6th concentration is going to be about trust and letting people influence you (I'm going to use a blindfold somehow).

My idea is still compelling to me because it's applies to everyone. Everyone has some sense of vulnerability; it's human nature. I think it's interesting because people act differently about vulnerabilities; some people hide it, some people admit it, some people try to turn it around on others. The subject is vast and I have several ideas for future pieces!

Concentration 1 and 2

This is my first concentration piece. This one focuses on vulnerability because of appearance and self-worth. I think that people who are uncomfortable with their body would be the most vulnerable at the pool or on the beach while they're in their bathing suits. This is part of my central idea of vulnerability. I think I've successfully shown the vulnerability, but I think the composition could have been more interesting. Also, a bikini would make more sense, but I think that the long bathing suit shows that she's uncomfortable with her body because she's trying to hide it.

This is my second concentration. I think high heals cause a lot of vulnerability because you can't run in them if you're put in a situation where you need to. Also people wear high heals to make their legs look "sexy" so that kind of attention also makes them vulnerable. This picture is showing her ankle twisting which shows her as vulnerable. I like this picture because of the texture and how the background is really blurred. I think it's kind of dark, but it's not that hard to tell what it is. Also, the foot in the background is straight and the one in the front is going another way and is slanted so it looks like she might be in the act of twisting her ankle and is about to fall down.

They both connect because of the emotion and the over all vulnerability, but also because the faces aren't present. I really like the idea of using hiding faces to connect my pieces. It's more discreet which I like and it also adds to the idea of what someone is feeling when they're vulnerable.

1st entry

The theme for my concentration is going to be something dealing with vulnerability so for now my title is simply vulnerability (I'll work on this). The artist Sophie Calle is very inspirational. Most of her work is about human vulnerability, identity, and intimacy.
Statues ennemies / Tranché la hache -
All of these photos are by Sophie Calle. I think the last three (especially the last one) are powerful because of the emotion they bring out. I want to be able to create powerful photographs like Sophie Calle does.
My plan for my first work is to take a picture showing vulnerability through guilt. I took pictures a year ago of a person with red paint (like blood) on their hand and face so I might see if I can take some better pictures like them or find those old pictures.
My second work is probably going to be about vulnerability because of appearance. I'm going to South Carolina over thanksgiving break so I think I will take a picture of my sister in a bathing suit looking uncomfortable.
My plan for my third work might be an artistic nude, but I'm not sure how comfortable I am with that. However, the state of nudity is definitely a vulnerable state and I think it's important  to include in my concentration. Sophie Calle also takes artistic nude portraits sometimes and they clearly show vulnerability...

(I don't know if this next photograph is really considered a nude since you can't really tell that they're naked even though they're under blankets with naked shoulders.)
